Academic Integrity and Assessments in an AI World 2026
“Working with AI, not against it, to promote a culture of integrity”
Program Overview
Academic integrity in a nutshell is about who you are and how you act when it matters. However, with the emergence of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and its wide use is not just threating academic integrity but it is redefining it. The traditional model is no longer sufficient for maintaining academic integrity in the age of advanced AI. There is thus, an urgent need for institutions of learning in Africa to evolve their policies, assessment methods, and ethics in order to maintain fairness, trust and at the same time embrace AI as a legitimate learning tool.
Academic integrity in an AI world calls for the upholding of the principles of honesty and ethical conduct while navigating the use of AI. However, there are multi-dimensional challenges of academic integrity and assessment in the AI era, touching on ethics, technology, pedagogy, and institutional policy.
This program, is about understanding how to use AI as a tool for learning, not a replacement for original thought, and adapting assessments to measure genuine understanding rather than simply the ability to generate content. The program equips delegates with the skills, knowledge and knowhow to tackle the challenges in preventing plagiarism and cheating through AI-generated text and ensuring that work submitted reflects the student’s own learning and critical thinking.
